    LNOP 2025

Riffs from Prelude, Fugue and Riffs (1949) by Leonard Bernstein, arranged by Simon Wright for trumpet soloist Alison Balsom and the BBC Symphony Orchestra. Performed in the Finale of the Last Night of the Proms 2025 at The Royal Albert Hall.

“Bursting with energy and packed with fiendish syncopations, the players let loose in what sounds like a freewheeling improvised jam but is actually an extraordinarily intricate and carefully written-out virtuosic showcase.”

“A particularly impressive rendition of Leonard Bernstein’s Riffs which brought some jazz into the show and gave Balsom another chance to shine.”

    Piano Trio

The John Cervantes Trio brings a fresh, dynamic energy to the classic piano trio format. Led by London-based pianist and composer John Cervantes, the ensemble delivers captivating performances that blend original compositions with imaginative interpretations of jazz standards. Their repertoire spans burning swing, soulful grooves, and vibrant Brazilian rhythms, offering audiences a rich and engaging musical experience.

Drawing inspiration from jazz greats such as Oscar Peterson, Mulgrew Miller, and Kenny Barron, the trio’s sound is both rooted in tradition and forward-looking. Cervantes’ lyrical touch and rhythmic clarity are complemented by the contributions of his esteemed bandmates.

Bassist Adam King, known for his work with British jazz legends like Stan Tracey and Peter King, provides a resonant and steady foundation. Drummer Dave Tandy, whose credits include performances with the BBC Big Band, Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra, and Gregory Porter, adds dynamic energy and nuanced rhythms.

Together, the John Cervantes Trio crafts performances that are both entertaining and profound, inviting listeners into moments of musical connection and exploration. Their live shows have been described as “unmissable” by the Belfast Telegraph, highlighting the trio’s ability to engage and inspire audiences.
